A romantic wedding dress is defined by its lightness and softness: fabrics that move (tulle, chiffon, flowing crepe), delicate lace, 3D flowers or airy sleeves, and a silhouette that follows the body without restricting it. Paired with a bohemian spirit, it becomes more natural and easier to wear, from a castle to a meadow.
You have probably saved dozens of photos: floating tulle, lace backs, 3D flowers that catch the light. And perhaps one question keeps coming up: am I more romantic, bohemian… or vintage? This guide brings together everything you need to know to choose: the styles, laces and fabrics, the difference with vintage, the accessories, and our custom-made models.
What is a romantic wedding dress?
Forget the image of the meringue dress in which you can neither sit nor breathe. Today's romanticism is about movement: lines that follow without squeezing, an almost airy lightness, precious but discreet details, and a touch of nostalgia that transports you back in time.
The 5 signs of a true romantic dress
- Fabrics that move: multi-layered tulle, chiffon, flowing crepe. They come alive with you as you walk, turn, and dance.
- Lace with texture: it catches the light and changes depending on the angle.
- Voluminous details: 3D flowers, scattered pearls, floral embroidery.
- Emphasized shoulders: Bardot neckline, puff sleeves, thin straps or sheer lace sleeves.
- An embellished back: open back, corset-style lacing, fabric-covered buttons.
Romantic and bohemian: why the combination works
Romanticism on its own can quickly look too formal. Bohemian on its own sometimes lacks that poetic touch. Together, they find the balance: the delicacy of romantic, the freedom and naturalness of bohemian.
In practical terms, a bohemian romantic dress retains structural points (a fitted bodice, a defined waist, even subtly) and lets the rest fall freely. The fabric does not hang; it drapes. It is this balance between freedom and structure that makes the difference with a "shapeless" dress.
This dress is made for you if… you love contrasts (elegant yet relaxed), if your wedding blends worlds (a castle with raw wooden tables, flea market finds and linen), and if you prefer things with character over perfectly smooth.
The 4 romantic styles and our models
Romanticism is not limited to a single silhouette. Here are the four main families found in our atelier, with the models that embody them best. All are made to your measurements, from size 32 to 60.
1. The flowing romantic: freedom above all
Crepe and chiffon move with you: you raise your arm for the first dance, the dress follows. It is the choice of brides who want to enjoy every minute, until the end of the night. The entire selection is gathered in our flowing wedding dresses.
Cape Sleeve Open Back Dress
The cape sleeves create spectacular movement with every step. It is almost enough on its own; many brides wear it without a veil.

Lace remains at the heart of romantic style. Not the kind from Sunday tablecloths, but textured lace, placed to define the silhouette: on an open back, in sheer sleeves, in a boat neckline. Discover all our lace wedding dresses.

It is the signature of the atelier: 3D flowers applied one by one, which seem to bloom on the tulle and catch the light at the golden hour. A cloudy volume, but without weight. Find them in our selection of princess wedding dresses.

Lace and fabrics: the guide
The line between a successful romantic dress and a dress that looks like a "costume" lies almost entirely in the fabrics. Here are the ones we use and what they bring.
The laces
Most of our laces and fabrics are made of polyester and polyester-cotton blends (some models are in silk: the composition is on each product page). A deliberate choice: these fabrics keep their shape all day, wrinkle little, withstand travel in a suitcase and are easy to maintain, while offering the delicate look expected from a romantic dress.
Fine lace with floral patterns: light and supple, perfect in sheer sleeves or on an open back.
Guipure: thicker, textured, without a tulle backing. It structures a bodice and gives a very couture look.
Embroidered lace on tulle: the patterns are embroidered on a fine tulle, often enhanced with pearls or shiny threads.
Plumetis: a tulle sprinkled with small raised dots, with a slightly playful charm. It bridges the gap between romantic and vintage (see our vintage dress with high neck and plumetis sleeves).
The fabrics
Tulle: the fabric of light volume. In several layers, it creates a cloudy skirt without weighing it down.
Chiffon: ultra-light, transparent, it never falls the same way twice. Ideal for airy sleeves and layered skirts.
Flowing crepe: discreet elegance, matte, wrinkle-resistant, with an impeccable drape.
Satin: more structured and luminous; it brings a more vintage or glamorous touch. For a country wedding, prefer light fabrics: thick satin marks more.
Romantic or vintage: how to choose?
This is the great dilemma for many brides-to-be. If the romantic bride whispers, the vintage bride tells a story: high collars, buttoned sleeves, heavy satin, 20s influences, Bridgerton or the 70s.
| Romantic | Vintage | |
|---|---|---|
| Materials | Tulle, chiffon, flowing crepe | Intricate lace, heavy satin, broderie anglaise |
| Details | 3D flowers, pearls, airy sleeves | High collar, covered buttons, puff sleeves |
| Silhouette | Flowing, empire, light princess | More structured, fitted, mermaid |
| Vibe | Garden, castle, golden hour | Estate, abbey, retro reception |
| For you if… | You want to float and move freely | You like character and pieces that have a story |
Let your venue choose
A grand castle or an elegant estate naturally welcomes the volume and tulles of a romantic dress. A ceremony under an oak tree, a renovated barn or an abbey highlights the textures of a vintage dress.
What if you don't choose?
Custom-made allows you to mix: a highly detailed lace top (vintage) and a flowing tulle skirt (romantic). A "lady in front, wood fairy in back" contrast that no one will have seen elsewhere. Our vintage bohemian high-neck dress is a good example: a retro collar, sheer lace that softens everything, and transformable volume.
You lean more towards retro? Read our guide vintage wedding dress: Bridgerton, Gatsby or the 70s, or browse our collection of vintage wedding dresses.
Which romantic dress according to your body shape?
Some cuts naturally flatter certain silhouettes, but custom-made allows you to adapt almost any style to your body.
A-line silhouette (hips wider than shoulders): voluminous sleeves or embroidery on the bust balance; the flowing skirt drapes the hips.
V-shaped silhouette (wider shoulders): a V-neck and a skirt that takes volume rebalance; avoid overly pronounced puff sleeves.
X-shaped silhouette: a defined waist highlights your natural proportions, the mermaid suits you very well.
H-shaped silhouette: an empire waist or strategically placed embroidery creates the illusion of curves.
Petite: avoid volumes that overwhelm, prefer a light tulle and a flowing skirt. Tall: a train and lace sleeves enhance the silhouette.
To go further: which wedding dress according to body shape.
Accessorizing a romantic dress
The rule: one strong accessory, not fifteen. Two or three pieces maximum.
The veil
Cathedral for the dramatic church entrance; juliet cap for a 20s–30s touch; mid-length, down to the elbows, less formal. No veil? A flower crown or a vintage comb is often enough. See our bridal veils.
Detachable sleeves
You like a strapless dress but the church requires covering the shoulders? Add sleeves for the ceremony, remove them for the evening. Discover our detachable sleeves.
Crown and hairstyle
Dried flowers last all day and bring a vintage side; a mix of fresh and dried adds color. Keep a delicate size that frames the face without hiding it.
Jewelry and shoes
Baroque pearl earrings, thin bracelet; a necklace only if the neckline allows it. On the shoe side: nude pumps with a stable heel (5–7 cm outdoors), strap sandals or lace ballet flats. Buy them early and give us the heel height when ordering for the hem.

For what wedding to choose a romantic dress?
Castle and garden
Ancient stones and French gardens are the ideal setting. Think structure: a detailed strapless top and a flowing skirt. With majestic stairs, a detachable train or a fastening system simplifies the day.
Country and outdoors
Favor materials that withstand grass and wind: crepe, chiffon, tulle. Our entire selection for the countryside is in the bohemian country wedding dresses.
Intimate or civil wedding
For an elopement or a city hall, the dress can be shorter or more personal: a slightly powdery shade, lace sleeves, an unexpected detail. See our civil wedding dresses.
Custom-made: personalization, deadlines and budget
How the order works
1. You choose your model. 2. You enter your measurements on the product page, following our measurement guide (ideally with the help of a close one). 3. A question about a cut or modification? Our team answers you before production. 4. Your dress is cut and assembled to your measurements, then shipped to you.
What you can personalize
Depending on the model: sleeve length, neckline depth, back opening, train length or color (white, ivory, champagne, nude, blush). Each modification is studied by our team; depending on its complexity, a supplement (generally from 100 to 200 €) is confirmed to you before production.
Deadlines
Count 5 to 8 weeks of production and shipping to your home. We advise you to order about 3 months before your wedding. Your date is closer? Write to us: we always do our best to adapt. To plan with peace of mind, read when to choose your bohemian wedding dress.
Budget
The price of each model is indicated on its product page, and delivery is free. What makes the price vary: the amount of lace, the hand-applied embroidery and pearls, the train length.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a romantic dress and a bohemian dress?
The romantic dress focuses on softness and precious details (lace, 3D flowers, tulle); the bohemian dress on freedom, naturalness and comfort. The romantic bohemian dress combines both: the delicacy of one, the casualness of the other.
Can you mix romantic and vintage in a single dress?
Yes, it is even one of the great advantages of custom-made: a retro lace strapless top paired with a flowing tulle skirt, for example.
Does tulle make you too hot for a summer wedding?
Fine tulle remains light and lets air circulate, even in multiple layers. For a very hot day, prefer a chiffon or flowing crepe skirt and a sleeveless top.
Is a romantic dress suitable for all body shapes?
Almost all: the cut adapts. An H-shaped silhouette benefits from choosing an empire waist, a petite size a light tulle rather than a big volume, an A-shaped silhouette a flowing skirt and a detailed bust.
Can you wear a romantic dress for a religious ceremony?
Yes. Check with your parish; if shoulders must be covered, add detachable sleeves, a matching stole or cape, or choose a sheer lace back.
How to be sure the dress will fit me, when ordering remotely?
Each dress is cut to your measurements. Take them in underwear, with a flexible measuring tape, ideally with the help of a close one; in case of doubt, our team checks with you before production.
How to maintain a lace dress after the wedding?
Never in the machine: entrust it to a specialized dry cleaner. Store it in a breathable cotton cover, in a dry place, with acid-free tissue paper, and air it out once a year.
What is the time to receive my dress?
Count 5 to 8 weeks of production and shipping. Ideally order about 3 months before your wedding date.
