Brigitte Bardot transformed a simple gesture into a fashion icon. By letting her straps slip off her shoulders in the 1950s, she unknowingly created one of the most coveted necklines in history. Today, the Bardot neckline continues to fascinate brides-to-be seeking this effortlessly sensual elegance.
The Bardot neckline captures the essence of vintage glamour: bare shoulders, a proud bearing, and natural confidence.
What exactly is a Bardot collar?
The Bardot neckline is that horizontal line that passes just above the chest and completely exposes the shoulders. Unlike a boat neck, the "sleeves" fall over the arms rather than resting on the shoulders. The result: the collarbones are highlighted, the neck appears longer, and there's that nonchalant elegance that Bardot had a knack for.
What makes this neckline so special? It instantly creates a sophisticated look while maintaining a natural sensuality. No need to overdo it—the shoulders speak for themselves.
Does it really last all day?
This is every bride's number one fear. And it's legitimate.
The truth is: a well-made Bardot-neck dress never slips. The secret isn't in the sleeves, but in the base. The bust should fit perfectly—just enough to hold without constricting. Most of our dresses incorporate a discreet bustier beneath the visible fabric, which stabilizes everything.
Sleeves that fall over the arms? They're there for aesthetics, not for support. The torso does the work.
With our made-to-measure dresses, we adjust this base to the millimeter. You move, you dance, you live your day - and the dress stays exactly where it needs to be.

The classic Bardot neckline is Hollywood. The red carpet. Grace Kelly. It's gorgeous, but sometimes too formal.
Bohemian life alone offers total freedom. Relaxation. But it can lack that glamorous spark.
Together? You get the best of both worlds. Shoulders beautifully framed in a vintage-inspired style, in a dress that exudes freedom. Handcrafted lace that softens the sophistication. A look that turns heads without being intimidating.

Contrary to popular belief, the Bardot neckline doesn't only suit narrow shoulders. It just needs to be adapted.
Narrow shoulders
The Bardot neckline is your ally. It creates a horizontal line that visually widens the silhouette. Opt for sleeves with volume (puffed) or details at the shoulders (embroidery, appliqués).
Broad shoulders
Don't shy away from the Bardot neckline! Opt for fitted long sleeves rather than voluminous ones. A soft curve rather than a straight line. Add volume at the bottom for balance.

Shoulders enhanced by meticulous preparation: no tan lines, elegant posture, serene smile
Traps to absolutely avoid
Tan lines
Plan ahead 2-3 months in advance. Adapt your tops when you're going out in the sun. If it's too late, a quality self-tanner can save the day (test it first!).
Visible lingerie
Traditional straps are not suitable for a Bardot neckline. Most of our dresses have a built-in bustier – you won't need to wear anything under your bust. Otherwise, opt for an adhesive or bandeau bra.
The neglected shoulders
They'll be in the spotlight. Start two weeks beforehand: gentle exfoliation twice a week, daily moisturizing, and hair removal a few days prior (not the day before). On the big day, a touch of highlighter on the collarbones will create a divine glow in photos.
The slumped posture
A Bardot neckline requires (and creates) an elegant posture. Shoulders slightly back, chin parallel to the floor, back straight but not rigid. It's not arrogance, it's confidence.

Tailor-made: why it's crucial for a Bardot neckline
A ready-to-wear Bardot neckline is a gamble. The horizontal line must fit your bust measurement EXACTLY. Not approximately. Exactly.
Our dresses are made to measure starting at €290. We take your precise measurements, adapt the neckline to your figure, and adjust the support according to your bust. The standard lead time is 8-12 weeks.
Personalization included
Our standard made-to-measure dresses already fit your figure perfectly. If you want to go further—alter the sleeves, change the back shape, adjust the neckline, or modify the closure—that's possible. We adapt the dress to your desires, not the other way around.
We don't have a physical store, just a professional team that meticulously crafts your dress. Our workshop → your home. Savings passed on to you.
Practical questions
Can we dance?
Absolutely. Test it during the fitting—move around, raise your arms. If anything feels uncomfortable, we'll adjust it. Our brides dance all evening without touching their dresses.
Religious ceremony?
Some churches require shoulders to be covered. An elegant solution: long, sheer or detachable sleeves.
How long before?
Ideally, 3-4 months to allow for peace of mind and to fully enjoy the creative process. Minimum 10 weeks (with an express delivery surcharge for weddings close together).
Weight change?
You place your order, entering your measurements, 3-4 months before the wedding, not 8 months. This timeframe works perfectly for most of our brides.
If you anticipate a change in weight, choose a model with a lace-up closure (precise adjustment) that accepts a range of 5 kg for a perfect fit.
For significant changes (more than 5-7 kg): stabilize your weight 4-5 months beforehand, then order 3 months before the big day. This is the winning formula.
Important: Our dresses are handcrafted creations made with very tight seam allowances by our designers and seamstresses. If you are unsure whether you can maintain a stable weight for 3 months (a variation of less than 5 kg), or if you insist on a zipper closure instead of an adjustable drawstring, we advise you to wait until you have achieved this stability before ordering. It's in your best interest and ours.
Your Bardot collar awaits you
The bohemian Bardot neckline isn't just a low-cut top. It's an attitude. That quiet confidence Bardot exuded in the 1950s. That way of embracing her femininity without overdoing it. That understated elegance that doesn't need to shout.
A dress that reflects your personality.
